Limassol has a population of 228,000 and is the second biggest city in Cyrpus. Located on Akrotiri Bay it offers lots to do for the holidaymaker. Here are some ‘must do’ things if you make to this incredible part of the world.

Limassol’s Beaches
Many people visit Limassol for the beaches, and rightly so! Ladies Mile Beach offers incredible sandy beaches with clear blue waters. Much of the same is delivered at Curium Beach, although the waters can be wild and wavy. However the beach is quite simply breathtaking. Pissouri Beach is another beach situated a little out of Limassol in the picturesque village of Pissouri.

Kykkos Monastery
In 1997 this monastery gained international attention when a statue known as the ‘Icon of the Virgin Mary’ wept for a whole month. Kykkos was the founded in 1092 by the Byzantines and is an incredible building in itself.
There are also many things to do outwith Limassol, but close enough for a day trip.
Kolossi Castle
Sitting just outside Limassol and is set amongst fields of vineyards. The castle was originally built in the 13th Century and when you cross the drawbridge to gain access, its medieval heritage is clearly apparent. Look above and you will see the spot where invaders were repelled by boiling oil being poured onto their heads. The castle was restored by the British in 1933 and keenly illustrates the struggles that Cyprus has had with invaders for centuries.
In the centre of Cyprus and within easy access of Limassol is Nicosia. The 1,000-year-old capital city is an essential stop for any visitor to Cyprus. Nicosia is the only divided city in Europe. The ‘Green line’ that divides the city into the Republic and the Turkish Northern Cyprus. Interestingly the only country that recognises Northern Cyprus is Turkey, whilst the rest of the international community recognises the Republic of Cyprus as the whole island. Quite apart from the political complexity the city offers many historical buildings and monuments; and the old walled city, built by the Venetians in the 16th Century, is incredible.
So if you’re just after the Sun and the Sand you won’t be disappointed on your cheap holidays to Limassol. But there are many other sites to be explored in this fascinating destination.
